The FCML season consists of six matches each year. For the match schedule please click here.
Team Structure
For each match, each school enters an A-team consisting of six students. A student may participate on the high school team if that student is currently taking a math course at that high school. The student may take the course remotely or in person, but the course must be taught by a teacher who teaches at the high school and it must be administered as a course at the high school. Your A-team may not include more than 3 seniors and may not include more than 5 seniors and juniors combined.
Additionally, B-team students may take part; you can involve as few or as many B-team students as you like, including middle school students enrolled in your district, if you wish. B-team scores do not count toward the school’s result, nor toward individual student awards.
Match Structure
Each match consists of a 30-minute individual portion comprising six individual rounds, followed by a team round. Each individual round consists of three questions in which Question 1 counts for one point, Question 2 counts for two points, and Question 3 counts for three points. During the 10-minute team round, the whole team works together on six problems, and each problem counts for three points.
Each A-team student takes three rounds within the individual portion of the match, and each round is taken by three students from each A-team. (Coaches will be asked to enter their round assignments on a Google spreadsheet at least one day prior to the match. Changes can be made up until the start of the match, but only in cases of emergency, please.)
Each B-team student chooses three rounds to take within the individual portion.
Calculators are not allowed in FCML.
